Personalization Boost on WhatsApp with Meta AI's Memory Capability
Oct-21-2024
Recent updates suggest that WhatsApp for Android is enhancing its artificial intelligence capabilities with a new addition, Meta AI. According to a feature tracker, the app is developing a memory feature that allows users to ask the AI to remember specific personal details. This capability aims to personalize interactions by tailoring responses based on the stored information. However, this feature, spotted in the latest beta release, is not yet available for beta testers.
WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates, reports that this feature will significantly improve user interaction with Meta AI. It was found in beta version 2.24.22.9 for Android, but is currently concealed from users in the Google Beta Program.
This memory feature permits users to direct Meta AI to keep track of specific personal information. Visuals shared by the tracker illustrate how this function could work, showing a ‘Memory’ option on the Meta AI profile page within the chat interface. By selecting this option, users can see a section titled "What Meta AI remembers about you," listing all stored data.
In this section, users can instruct the AI to remember various details such as dietary preferences, professional titles, significant dates, and favored ways of communication. For instance, if a user is vegan, the chatbot might suggest vegan recipes when asked for meal ideas. This customization is designed to make the digital assistant more helpful and intuitive.
While this feature is still under development, details about its privacy and security safeguards remain unclear. It’s worth noting that OpenAI’s ChatGPT offers a similar feature, providing users control over the information retained or deleted, ensuring that stored data is not used for training broader language models.
